In 2019 we placed into service five Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicles for use by City employees in performing their daily duties. Fueled by citizen owned energy produced at our own Lake Worth Beach electric utility solar farm installed atop a closed City landfill, these five vehicles can be seen driving daily around our City. Electric vehicles help us reduce the use of fossil fuel and help keep our air clean while also reducing costs. The cost to drive an electric vehicle is less than half the cost of a gasoline powered vehicle, which gives us the added benefit of reduced operating costs.
And to help our customers save money we will be installing vehicle charging stations at three locations in the City in 2020, thereby eliminating the need for customers who buy or lease their own electric vehicles from having to install charging stations at home.
