The Fourth Facility of the Florida Municipal Solar Project Commemorated with Ceremonial Ribbon-Cutting in Levy County
WILLISTON, Florida — Lake Worth Beach Electric Utilities celebrated the completion of the fourth solar site in the Florida Municipal Solar Project (FMSP) with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting in Williston, Florida. Director of Lake Worth Beach Electric Utilities, Ed Liberty, was in attendance to commemorate the occasion, along with leadership from Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) and Origis Energy.
“Participating in the Florida Municipal Solar Project has proven to be the most cost-effective solution to our community’s desire to include solar energy in our supply portfolio,” said Liberty. “The economies of scale we achieved in being part of this project significantly outweigh the costs of local options for our customers.”
Whistling Duck Solar concludes Phase II of the 300 MW FMSP. This project supports Lake Worth Beach’s participation in affordable solar energy generation for its member utilities. The site supplies 74.9 MWac to four Florida communities. The City of Lake Worth Beach is the second largest off taker of Whistling Duck Solar, receiving 20.9 MWac, and an additional 13.25 MWac from the earlier FMSP Phase II site, Rice Creek Solar Facility in Palatka, Florida.
FMPA serves as the project coordinator, and participating municipal utilities – who are member-owners of FMPA – purchase power from the project. Origis Energy, a leading renewable energy and decarbonization solution platform, is the builder, owner and operator of the facility.
“We are excited to celebrate the completion of Whistling Duck Solar Energy Facility with our participating member cities,” said Jacob Williams, general manager and CEO of FMPA. “The genesis of the Florida Municipal Solar Project evolved from several of our member cities expressing interest in developing solar generation for their communities. Through the FMSP, we have added 300 total MWac of solar energy, providing a long-term and cost-effective way to expand our generation mix for our members.”
