How Sergo Sagareli Helps Power Lake Worth Beach’s Next Generation Grid

Sergo

The City of Lake Worth Beach Electric Utilities is proud to highlight one of the talented professionals helping power our community, Sergo Sagareli, Substation Engineer. Since joining the team in May 2024, Sergo has become an integral part of the department’s ongoing efforts to modernize and strengthen the city’s electric system.

Driving Innovation and Reliability

Sergo’s fascination with electricity began in childhood. “I was always curious about the magic invisible power behind the electrical receptacle that could make everything work,” he recalls. That curiosity led him to take apart toy cars just to see how the tiny motors spun, the birth of his engineering passion.

In his role as a Substation Engineer, Sergo’s work touches nearly every aspect of the city’s substation operations. His days are filled with reviewing and analyzing substation events, visiting sites to monitor construction or maintenance progress, collaborating with vendors and consultants, and developing specifications for new projects.

“I often get involved in all aspects and areas of substation engineering,” Sergo explains. His broad technical background and hands-on approach make him a vital resource for the department.

Building the Future with Teamwork

Among his many contributions, Sergo is especially proud of his involvement in the design and construction of the 6th Avenue Substation, a major infrastructure project the city is currently working on. This project represents the city’s ongoing commitment to increased reliability for our citizens, and the integration of advanced technologies that will serve residents for decades to come.

When asked what sets Lake Worth Beach Electric Utilities apart, Sergo emphasizes the department’s commitment to progress. “There’s a constant drive to improve the existing system using the newest technologies,” he says. He also praises the supportive and collaborative environment, describing it best with the quote, “Consider yourself lucky when you have a team.”

Inspired by Innovation

Sergo’s dedication to learning and innovation goes beyond his daily responsibilities. He holds a U.S. Patent for the invention of a multifunctional device for electric utilities, an achievement that continues to inspire his work. He’s also been involved in training robotic dogs for substation inspections and patrols, blending technology and creativity in ways that help advance safety and efficiency.

Looking Ahead

As he continues his journey with Lake Worth Beach Electric Utilities, Sergo is eager to expand his skills in advanced computer applications used in power system operations and modeling. He’s also excited about the broader future of the electric utility industry, where continuous research and development promise to make systems smarter, cleaner, and more resilient.

His advice for those just starting out in the field reflects his lifelong curiosity, “Try to learn something new every day – there’s so much of it out there in substations and power systems.”

From his early fascination with electricity to his current role powering an entire community, Sergo’s journey embodies the spirit of innovation, teamwork, and progress that drives the City of Lake Worth Beach Electric Utilities forward.
