Building a Career with Purpose

One of the most exciting aspects of Lake Worth Beach Electric Utilities is the innovative work carried out by our dedicated engineers. Electrical Engineer Jakub Pajak exemplifies this commitment with a passion for continuous learning and professional growth that contributes to the department’s ongoing success.

Jakub joined the City’s Electric Utilities team just over two years ago, bringing with him valuable experience from his previous engineering roles as an electrical engineer. Ultimately Jakub sought a more stable and impactful career path in electric utilities. “Everyone uses electricity, and demand is only growing as technology evolves. It’s a career that’s constantly expanding and adapting.” Jakub says.

Recently, Jakub received an offer to join the Protection & Control engineering team here in the City of Lake Worth Beach. Jakub advised he is grateful for the opportunity to serve our customers and learn from the leaders.

Versatility, Achievements, and Teamwork

Jakub’s role is far from one-dimensional. His daily responsibilities range from drafting electrical layouts using CAD (computer-aided design) software, to providing construction engineering support in the field, to designing electrical services based on customer and developer requests. The variety is what he enjoys most. “I like that I’m not confined to one task. My work spans multiple responsibilities, which keeps things interesting.”

That eagerness to grow and take on challenges has paid off. One accomplishment he’s particularly proud of is his role in securing the federal GRIP (Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships) Grant, a competitive and highly sought-after grant that required ample preparation and documentation. “Winning the GRIP Grant was a big achievement for our team. It was a real collaborative effort and a rewarding experience.”

Collaboration is a theme Jakub returns to often. “Teamwork here is all about building on each other’s strengths. We help one another and work together to develop solutions,” he says. That spirit is especially important given the department’s unique challenges, such as the coastal environment, where saltwater exposure complicates maintenance and system design. “Lake Worth Beach Electric Utilities stands out because of our territory’s proximity to the ocean.” The city’s proximity to the water adds complexity, and a chance to think creatively.

Jakub thrives in that kind of environment. He recently found inspiration during the Gulfstream project, which involved successfully undergrounding eight conduits through an alleyway. “Seeing it come together and knowing I helped make it happen, that was a proud moment.”

Life Beyond Work and Looking Ahead

Outside of work, Jakub enjoys constructing houses, and has a talent for observational drawing.

When asked what advice he would give to someone starting out in the field, he offers “Be open to always learning and growing. Don’t get complacent.”

Jakub Pajak is a shining example of the City of Lake Worth Beach Electric Utilities’ commitment to excellence, innovation, and community-focused service. With dedicated engineers like him leading the way, one can be sure that the future of the City’s power grid is in good hands.
