In a recent RELAY magazine article Lake Worth Beach Electric Utilities Director Ed Liberty, president of the Florida Municipal Electric Association’s (FMEA) Board of Directors, discusses his career in public power, leadership approach, and the utility’s ongoing efforts to improve reliability and control costs. Liberty highlights major investments through the System Hardening and Reliability Improvement Program, which has contributed to significant improvements in outage frequency and duration, as well as the completion of a second transmission tie-line that provides the utility with a more reliable and redundant power supply.
Liberty also discusses Lake Worth Beach Electric Utility’s improved A1 credit rating, which has helped lower borrowing costs and reduce the impact on electric rates. Looking ahead, he emphasizes continuous improvement, innovative system design, cost savings, and developing the next generation of public power leaders through greater involvement in industry organizations such as FMEA and FMPA.
